Softness, lightness, and texture are the characteristics of the feather that were noticed initially. Then ideas of flight, the sky, and where the feather originated from came to thought. The fact that this little feather supported life and allowed a bird to soar freely in the sky is amazing. It is this sense of freedom that is captured in the bathroom and laundry room design. It is a space where you do not need feel ashamed, but instead embrace yourself, and soar freely in your own skin.
CONCEPT MODEL
The different textures of the feather is represented in the concept model. The color blue is also incorporated to symbolize life and water; water is a necessity of life, and since this will be applied to a bath and laundry room I thought this would be a great concept for the space. It was difficult not to make the model too literal because all I could imagine was a feather. The final concept model simply looks like an abstracted feather. If I had more time I'd would make it so that people would not be able to recognize it as a feather. Although I am still happy with the end product.
STUDY MODEL
I love the windows and the shape of the roof. The windows provide a stream of natural lighting and creates patterns throughout the space. Creating this model was actually pretty simple. To match the curves I made a stencil and all the walls were cut out from one piece.
